Back in 2019, I was frustrated with the available applications for creating seating charts. Many felt outdated or simply missed the mark. That's when I decided to build something more flexible and easy to use. My goal was simple: an efficient online application for people who want to get things done without the hassle.

Seating Chart Maker overview

The Seating Chart Maker isn't meant to reinvent the wheel (though we do have a Wheel of Names if you need one). It's a digital tool designed to make seating chart creation and management easier, especially for educators and organizers. And if there's one thing I've learned from Finland's renowned education system, it's the value of simplicity and efficiency.

Improved based on community feedback

I'm genuinely grateful for the feedback I've received from users over the years. Thanks to the suggestions from the Seating Chart Maker user community, the app has evolved to cater more effectively to real-world needs. Some features driven by your feedback include the following:

  • The ability to flip the seating chart between teacher/student points of view.
  • The option to add numbers or labels for seats.
  • Clearer navigation on the main lists of rooms, rosters, and seating charts when you have a large number of resources.
  • The ability to lock specific students in place before running a random seat assignment.

Mikko is the founder and developer behind Seating Chart Maker. He holds a Master's degree in Software Engineering and has spent over a decade building software professionally. He also has some teaching experience from his time as a teaching assistant at Tampere University of Technology. Back in 2019, tired of existing seating chart tools, he built the one he wished existed.
